Revolutionary online music world - Some ideas for future

Lots of changes are happening around in the music industry for last 6-7 years. Probably, seeds for the changes were sown during the dotcom boom. Though they were not much successful in getting the benefits out of their over enthusiasm during dotcom boom, many of the entrepreneurs gave a direction to the future businesses. Today a lot of business is being done and out of these successes, Apple tried successfully to sell songs online through iTune. After the launch of iPod, it seems that everyone wants to take music in his/her pocket all the time. Perhaps it is one of the most successful venture by any company in last two decades and this is still growing. One of the thing that Apple did was it changed how the music is sold. Previously, we were forced to buy the whole music Album whether we liked all the songs or not, we had no other choice. Apple helped customers in choosing the single songs. It was an amazing idea and because of wonderful supply chain managed by Apple, it is still the most successful product and rival companies (including cash-rich Microsoft and Music rich Sony) are fighting in gaining market share out of this business. But the problem is these rivals are trying to copy the idea rather than thinking something new and providing value to the customer. Well these rivals can get some market share but by that time it will not be successful idea to be in.
Amazon is trying a different approach in online music industry through its Amazon Music Store. Rather than selling all the songs at same price as iTune does, it is trying to sell different song at different price based on many criteria or perhaps using simple demand-supply logic. There are always some old song, people like but not so much. We may still like Beatles but it has become a classic why someone should still pay 99c for it. Amazon is trying to use price differentiation on top of what Apple already does (unbundled the CD). Amazon still sells CDs that is good because there are lot of customers who are not too tech-savvy (though every software company wants to create software that "even my mother can use" but it is not always true.) and may not want to use iPod but play on CD player. I think amazon is trying a good idea though it has to get hold of many more music companies to become any significant player in this industry.
Everything is said. I want some company to go even farther that is I called idea for future. A retail store like iTune, Amazon or some other company should bypass the music companies for future. Artist should be able to record and sell directly to the customers. It is like I record my music album or just a song and put on iTune for sell whoever wants can download it for a low price, let say 49c (because no money goes to the music company, this price can be good enough for artist). because now a days music are stored in digital form and the argument given by music companies that they hold all the new and old albums, they should get royalty and if the songs are allowed to copied freely they will not be able to support good artists is not completely valid. Music is still managed in old ways in the background. It is only the front part (selling to the customers) that has changed. There needs to more changes in the supply chain and this process can be made much leaner and music can be made available at much lower cost. There are always other source of earning money for good artists. Everyone can get CD from retail store but still people go to live concerts.
I strongly believe a whole lot of things need to be changed in this business. More changes will happen in coming year. And i hope someone will implement my this idea as companies has implemented idea of affordable mobiles that i wrote 4 years back.

  1. I am strongly convinced by ideas that you have put across.Dramatic cost reducation is possible if middlemen(Music companies) are removed from Music selling...Hope Apple is listening......

Nevertheless,You can claim royalty when some body tries to emulate ur ideas....
