UK, USA and Australian universities attracts Indian students

In 2008, 97000 Indian students went to Australia and over 30,000 went to UK. Similar number of students went to USA. This year these countries have been hit very hard by recession. Their government and private funding have gone down significantly. In this difficult time these universities are trying to lure more Indian student to fund their budgets. In UK, particularly, international students pay over £10,000 per year for masters or bachelors degree. In some specialise courses such as MBA the tuition fee rise to over £15,000 per month depending on the university brand name or marketing success.

While the home (UK and EU) students pay only as little as one third of the international students. Though most of the home students fund their education through graduate education loan but in this recession period, many of these students will prefer to stay away from universities. In UK and I am sure in Australia as well, every university has hundreds of students from India every year. So if you are coming for an international experience, that is difficult to get in the class room because the student sitting next to you will also be from India or China.

The universities are recruiting international students as cash cows and they do not, generally, have enough facilities for large number of students coming in from every where. Universities are trying to increase the size of the class and running class rooms like factories to earn money. Not only the quality of the education is going down but also the prospect of getting job during or after the studies in these countries are pretty low at the moment. Companies are making thousands of people redundant here so getting job for new international students is very tough, in fact chances are close to zero. There are thousands of students who passed last year and who will graduate this year as well. These students are already available in the market so you will have to struggle a lot to find suitable place for yourselves.

So before coming to any university after spending all your parents savings, think again. At this moment, you might not get any job so it is risky to go for higher education this year. Though the representatives of these universities will say that you can work for 20 hours par week while studying and you can fund your maintenance yourselves but the reality is there is no work in the market so even if you are legally allowed to work, practically you will find any work.
