Recently, a full length version of "X man origins: Wolverine" was uploaded on some of the websites. It is surprising because the movie will be released only in May and it is from a big production house, 20th Century Fox so there should have been all the possible security measures in place.
Time and again, our security measure have failed to stop the piracy of the movies and music albums. There is effectively no regulation or policing on the internet content. There have been some attempts to prosecute the people involved in video sharing but this is more of a stunt than any thing real for couple of reasons. First of all, it is practically impossible to sue so many people sharing video. It will be too expensive legally and does not worth the merit. Second some countries do not have strong anti-piracy laws so we can prosecute people sitting in those countries. Content is multi-lingual on the internet. For example, it is near impossible for the people to imagine the amount of data and copyrighted material available on the chinese and russian sites.
In such a difficult scenario where we have failed to stop piracy we need to think some other ways that helps us in making some profits because we are not inherenetly against piracy. We want profit if it comes from piracy, we should mind where it comes from. Every popular movie is watched by millions of people online. We believe it or not but all the movies are available somewhere on some websites. Most of the time, quality is not perfect but the online viewers are not bothered about the quality when they get it for free. Many of these will never go to watch these movies in the theatre. Number of these people is is millions. But a very large proportion of these will be willing to pay some amount, say $0.50 to watch at the comfort of their house. Of course they will not get the best quality but they are not looking for that. But the production houses will get millions in revenue. It can be run in cooperation with Apple iTunes or some other company providing same facilities.
It is a next generation of entertainment. We might have to think and develop 21st century dogs because we do not see fox anymore and 20th century has already passed.
